Each day is full of articles and news of the automobile industry. Basic knowledge is required for anyone dealing with an automobile. A dead battery of a car can be a dangerous situation and one can be stranded on the road if not aware of the battery and electrical system. That is why the more one know about the electrical system, the less are the chances for one to get stuck with a dead battery.

How does a car battery work?

The car battery provides the necessary power, which all the electric component of the vehicle needs, by a jolt of electricity.  Without battery power, the car won’t start. The battery of the car converts chemical energy into the electrical energy necessary to power the car, delivering voltage to the starter. The car battery may be small, but the power it provides is huge.

When to replace the battery?

There are several indications and signals which states that the battery needs replacement.

1        Slow engine crank: When the attempt to start the vehicle, the cranking of the engine is sluggish and takes longer than normal to start.

2       Check engine light: The check engine light sometimes appears when the battery power is weak.

3       Low battery fluid level: If the fluid level is below the lead plates (energy conductor) inside, it’s time to have the battery and charging system tested. When fluid levels drop, it’s typically caused by overcharging (heat).

4       The swelling, bloating battery case: The excessive heat can cause the battery case to swell, decreasing the battery life.

5      Three years + battery age: Battery life cycles range from three-to-five years depending on the battery.
